Wondering what all of the essential oil hype is about?
Want the 3 basics ways to use essential oils? Well here you go... Aromatic Simple smelling an oil from the bottle directly or popping a few drops into an oil diffuser to disperse into the air, will allow you to use the oils aromatically. Allowing a drop or two to fall onto your palm and gently inhaling with slow intentional breaths will also deliver the oils directly to your senses. As an example: Inhale peppermint directly from the bottle to feel awake and energised after a long day. Topical To use an essential oil topically just simply place a few drops on your hands and gently massage into the desired area on your skin. It is also suggested that a carrier oil is used to avoid any skin sensitivity. Great carrier oils are sweet almond oil, fractionated coconut oil and apricot kernel oil. As an example: Place a drop or two of Digest Zen on your belly when dealing with an upset stomach or gas. Internal Only high quality food grade therapeutic essential oils can be used internally. Place a drop under your tongue, in a glass of mineral water or take using a natural gel capsule. As an example: Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to your water first thing in the morning to aid in the digestive process. Essential oils are bottled in single oils and oil blends. A single oil refers to one type of oil such as lemon or lavender. While oil blends are comprised of two or more single oils to create a synergy of oils. Any number of oils can be diffused together. It comes down to what you like or your intention or purpose for blending the oils. Using the oils to enhance wellbeing, support emotions, cleanse the air of impurities or just because you like the smell are a few ways to benefit. Essential oils originate from plants. Oils are extracted or distilled from the plants using their seeds, leaves, bark, wood, flowers, peels, fruit, roots or resin. Some oils are photosensitising with can react with ultraviolet light. These oils are typically citrus oils and are best not topically used on the skin for 1-3 days that will have exposure to ultraviolet light. Good quality therapeutic-grade essential oils are highly concentrated and are best used with caution. Some oils such a cassia or oregano can cause discomfort on young or sensitive skin due to their ‘heat. If you accidentally apply essential oils to your eyes or find the oil is causing any discomfort, always use a carrier oil to dispel the potency. Using water will not ‘'wash away' the oil or discomfort, as water and oils do not blend together. The water will actually drive the oil deeper into the tissue, increasing the level of discomfort. Placing a carrier oil over the essential oil will cause the essential oil to mix with and disperse within the carrier oil, helping to relieve any discomfort. A number of oils are asked to be avoided throughout pregnancy or at least not during certain trimesters. Aways check before ingesting and using essential oils topically while pregnant or breastfeeding. Over the years I have used a number of different essential oil companies because of the availability at the time, due to the price or limited knowledge. Now I choose doTERRA essential oils. I love them. I have been using them for 2.5 years now and I can’t go back to my old ways. I know more and I understand the value in what I’m buying and why I’m buying them. We have 3 diffusers in our home. The lounge/dinning area is home to a large diffuser while in my Healing Room and office there are much smaller diffusers. I use them all daily. Most days the diffusers run 2-3 times. Each diffuser has a different blend of oils so my family benefit from the use of many oils in just one day. It's safe to say, I can't live with essential oils.
